I bought this blind at the end of the year after it appeared in Soul Brother's recommended selection of the catalogue ...and very pleased I did.
Black Gold Massive are Chris Morgans, Simon T. Bramley & Cindy Mizelle, with various other musicians input. Now I'm sure that some of those names are familiar to some of you, Simon & Chris are associated with various bands on Internal Bass records inc. Mr Gone, DTTB etc. but this is NOT another DTTB album, the inclusion of Cindy Mizell takes this to a different level IMO. Cindy has had solo albums and numerous backing vocal chores but is most well known for working with Luther Vandross & he knew a thing or two about vocalists!
Well to the music, we have a mixture of original & covers......Don't Give Up Now - this is special, lovely bassline & great vocals, a mid tempo killer.
Set Me Free - a cover of the Bygraves track, although new to me....soulful & funky.... tasty,...Cast No Shadow - a good jazz funk vibe ...quite Incognito like Very Happy Call Me Anytime - the most immediate track whe I first heard the CD, a great dancer with Cindy's vocals on top....mmmm. When did You go - a slow ballad, my least fav. but shows versatility and vocal quality. Just Make A Move back to the uptempo jazz-funk....try...
